Atlanta is the capital and most populous cities of Georgia. It is a top business city and has the third largest concentration of America’s Fortune 500 companies. It is home to majority of its Fortune 1000 companies as well. Every year the city attracts tourists in very large numbers. The highest recorded number being 37 million in 2007!
Flights to and from Atlanta are served by Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. It’s the ‘world’s busiest passenger airports’. It is also a major connecting hub for numerous destinations across the world. Apart from flights, Atlanta is also highly accessible through the interstate highways. The highway intersects west from Alabama and Texas, east from South Carolina and north from Florida.
Traffic in and around the city can be congested. However, the MARTA rail and bus system provides a very cost-effective and convenient mode of public travel.
Downtown Atlanta is the historic core of the city. It is the largest of the three business districts and seat of lifestyle, sport, culture and art. Tall buildings and impressive architecture, government facilities, sports center and parks are aplenty. Downtown Atlanta has the city’s chief tourist attractions. Places of interest include the Underground Atlanta, Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca Cola opposite the aquarium, Atlanta History Center, Rhodes Hall, Atlanta Cyclorama, Civil War Museum, Fernbank Science Center children museum and Stone Mountain.
The Underground Atlanta keeps bustling with activity, entertainment and shopping through out day and night. The Georgia Aquarium is the world’s largest indoor aquarium and the Stone Mountain is the world’s largest piece of exposed granite.
Snaking the famous landmarks and attractions are a cluster of boutique and budget hotels. There are neighborhood eateries and upscale restaurants and famous karaoke bars, music joints and jazz lounges that spread throughout the city. They offer diverse entertainment options. Atlanta’s numerous malls, the ‘shopping paradise’, are the perfect outlets for spendthrift tourists.
